Racing Champions 1978 Pontiac Trans Am: 2001 Smokey and the Bandit

*2020 update: My 2008 notes follow.  However, in researching this further I’m wondering if I’d actually opened the Smokey & The Bandit release to acquire this.  I’ll have to dig it out and check for a serial number, which would only be present if it was the release cited below.  Meanwhile I’m going to assume I was incorrect and this is the Smokey release.  Regardless, it’s beautiful.

This great looking Pontiac Trans Am was released by Racing Champions as part of the “Motor Trend Mint Edition” series. Supposedly it’s 1 of 19,998 released, but that number seems too high to consider it “rare.”

As you can see, the detailing on this release is fantastic for a 1/64th scale release.

An artistic urge caught me, so I took this fun straight-on shot. I especially like how the light glared off the silver head and fog light paint.

Hot Wheels Rig Wrecker: 1983 #3916 Workhorses

The Rig Wrecker was introduced in 1983 as part of the Workhorses series. It’s  a cab-over truck with tandem rear axles and a plastic crane and tow hook.

This is the original 1983 release, featuring white paint, red & blue “Steve’s Towing” detailing, a red crane and lights, unpainted metal base, and BWs.

I found this car loose at a flea market.

Hot Wheels Sidebanger: 1985 #7580 Sidebanger

Released in 1985, this was another of my favorite vehicles, as it reminded me of the hero’s car in the movie Condorman. Car is yellow in color and decorated with black, white, and red flames and the number “5”. Black windows and small/large BW wheels.  The right door flips to show damage upon impact.

Hot Wheels Sidebanger: 1986 #9329 Sock ‘n Roll

This came in a batch of loose cars I picked up at an auction. Hot Wheels renamed every release of the Crack-Ups line and this is the same casting as the Sidebanger (and others) and was sold in 1986 in a 2-pack with a stamp. It has an unpainted body and base with orange/purple/yellow “5” tampos, black windows, and small/large BWs. The right door flips to show damage upon impact.

Matchbox Superfast #14 Mini Ha-Ha: 1975 #14

This fun little car is a surreal release. It’s a red Austin Mini with a huge chromed engine sticking up through the front hood. Also prominent is a caricature driver protruding from the body. The driver is pink in color and is wearing a brown driving cap and goggles. The side of the vehicle features a blue and white circular graphic and the vehicle has opaque sky-blue windows.

Here’s my Mini Ha-Ha, found loose at a flea market while out shopping one day.

Hot Wheels BMW M1: 1985 #7296

1985 release. Green spectraflame paint with yellow/black lightning tampos, a black metal base, and UH wheels. Labeled “Wind Splitter” on card and base. This is my original childhood favorite and shows signs of many happy memories yet is in surprisingly okay condition. Somewhere in a box I have a carded one I picked up later in life.
